Our mission is to conserve native wild birds and to educate and involve the public in ecosystem stewardship through educational outreach, wild bird rehabilitation, restoration, and research projects.
Three Rivers Avian Center (TRAC) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization focused on wild bird conservation, ecosystem education, and community involvement. Established in 1990, TRAC features a 110-acre facility situated in the scenic New River Gorge area of southern West Virginia, between Sandstone and Hinton in Summers County. Bordered partially by the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve, TRAC's location provides an ideal setting for bird watching, wildlife viewing, and connecting with nature. Wild bird rehabilitation has its great days, not so great days and horrible days. Yesterday was a horrible day. We were capturing the wood stork from the flyway to go get a Veterinary Certificate of Health so he could go across State lines. The wood stork jumped off his perch gave four strong wing flaps and collided head on with one of the flyway rafters (12 feet up). There was nothing we could do. He quickly died. He is buried now, and we are all still in a state of shock. Thank you so very much to WaterDawg Outdoors on the ByPass in Hinton for their help and support, as well as the Tate Lohr Fish Hatchery in Oakvale for letting us stockpile culls over pervious months.
